Penguin Hide and Seek: how to find the penguins and claim your weekly XP

Penguin Hide and Seek turns a weekly round of disguised penguins into XP for any skill you choose. Use the latest World 60 reports, unlock extra targets through quests, then spend the points on lamps or coins.

Find this week’s penguins on World 60

Open the current World60Pengs location list and switch to World 60. Check when each location was reported and start with the freshest sighting. The spawn label shows where that penguin began the week; use the latest report for where volunteers most recently found or trapped it.

Larry or Chuck at Ardougne Zoo can give you a free penguin spy device. You do not need it to spy on a penguin. Its Hint menu lists the numbered regular penguins and tracks which ones you have found, while Scan marks a nearby unspied penguin with an arrow.

Use the teleports you already have around that week’s locations. Lodestones are enough to begin. Skip a target you cannot reach and check again later. Close doors behind you and do not let trapped penguins out. Leave the Zap function alone on ordinary penguins while volunteers are moving them.

Which quests increase weekly points?

A normal starting round has ten regular penguins worth 15 points. The penguin quest chain adds a polar bear, a ghost penguin and one more regular penguin, raising a complete round to 21 points before numbered agents.

Weekly Penguin Hide and Seek point totals rise from 15 to 16, 19 and 21 as the penguin quest chain is completed.

Complete the quests in order. Hunt for Red Raktuber also requires Sea Slug, and Back to the Freezer also requires Ernest the Chicken.

  • No penguin quests: 15 points from five 1-point spies and five 2-point spies.
  • Hunt for Red Raktuber: 16 points after adding the polar bear in a well for 1 point.
  • Some Like It Cold, plus shadow visibility: 19 points after adding the ghost penguin for 3 points.
  • Back to the Freezer, with the previous unlocks: 21 points after adding one more regular penguin for 2 points, plus a chance of Agent 007.

Quest and location requirements

The ghost is penguin 11 in the device list and changes location about every 10 minutes. You need a ring of visibility obtained during Desert Treasure, or permanent shadow visibility from Gift from Sliske. You do not need to finish Desert Treasure just to obtain and use the ring for this purpose. The polar bear stays in its well for the week; the correct well has an Inspect option.

Location access is separate from the penguin quest chain. Check the current report before completing access quests you may not need that week. Common destinations can require progress in Cabin Fever, Death to the Dorgeshuun, Lost City, Necromancy!, The Fremennik Isles, Lunar Diplomacy, Monkey Madness, Regicide or Visions of Havenhythe.

  • Cold War: 30 Agility, 34 Construction, 30 Crafting, 10 Hunter, plus 15 Thieving or access to Zanaris for cowbells.
  • Hunt for Red Raktuber: 45 Construction, 45 Hunter and 38 Thieving.
  • Some Like It Cold: 50 Construction, 56 Crafting, 65 Fishing and 50 Thieving.
  • Back to the Freezer: 50 Divination, 45 Runecrafting and 37 Slayer.
  • Ironmen: make the clockwork from a steel bar at a clockmaker’s bench; smelting the bar yourself needs 20 Mining and 20 Smithing. Carnillean Rising rewards 10 mahogany planks, and mahogany logs or planks can also come from drops. The Cold War link below has the full item list.

How much XP do penguin points give?

The Spy Club sells small, medium, large and huge lamps for 1, 2, 4 and 8 points. At the same skill level, every point gives the same XP whichever lamp size you buy. If one lamp levels the skill, later lamps use the new level and can give more.

XP is based on the skill’s level when you use the lamp. The figures below are for standard skills: a full 21-point round at level 99 gives about 186.3k XP. Invention receives half, about 93.2k. Use the level 110 and 120 rows only for skills with real levels above 99, not virtual levels.

You can take 10,000 coins per point instead. Points can be saved up to a cap of 250, so spend some before the next hunt if you are getting close.

  • Level 50: 15 points give about 18.3k XP; 21 points give about 25.6k.
  • Level 70: 15 points give about 46.9k XP; 21 points give about 65.7k.
  • Level 80: 15 points give about 71.6k XP; 21 points give about 100.2k.
  • Level 90: 15 points give about 102.6k XP; 21 points give about 143.6k.
  • Level 99: 15 points give about 133.1k XP; 21 points give about 186.3k.
  • Level 110: 15 points give about 168.0k XP; 21 points give about 235.2k.
  • Level 120: 15 points give about 193.4k XP; 21 points give about 270.7k.

Extra rounds and numbered agents

If you already have a weekly D&D reset token, you can use it on Penguin Hide and Seek once for another round that week. Several old token sources were removed in March 2026, including the Travelling Merchant, weekly challenge rewards and the Maw. Use the linked token page for the current acquisition list.

Agents 001 to 006 are shared spawns with easy through elite caskets, while Agent 007 is a short-lived personal spawn.

Agents 001–006 are shared spawns. Each gives 2 points and a Treasure Trails casket, then disappears when someone spies it. Agent 007 can appear after Back to the Freezer when you spy a regular penguin. It is visible only to you and remains for about a minute.

  • You can spy up to ten Agents 001–006 in a weekly round.
  • Their casket can be easy, medium, hard or elite.
  • Watch for the Agent 007 notification and look nearby. The spy device does not locate numbered agents.

Permanent spotted-penguin rewards

These rewards unlock automatically from your total number of penguins spotted. They do not spend the points you use for XP.

  • 10 spotted: larger scan range.
  • 20 spotted: Birdwatcher title.
  • 40 spotted: Zap function.
  • 60 spotted: Briefcase of disguises.
  • 70 spotted: Spymaster title.
  • 80 spotted: Sheldon pet.
